When should I use the maternity pad?

Maternity pads are used after giving birth to manage postpartum vaginal bleeding, also known as lochia. It can last between 2 and 6 weeks.

How often should I change a maternity pad?

This depends purely on your body, your menstrual cycle post childbirth, and the amount of postpartum bleeding you are experiencing.

You may need to change your pad every hour or two hours after giving birth, when bleeding is heavier. This will reduce to every three hours or four hours over the next two days, when the bleeding gradually becomes lighter.

Can I use the normal Maxi pad as a maternity pad?

Although you can use Maxi pads as maternity pads, it is recommended to use maternity pads as they are specifically designed for new mothers who experience postpartum bleeding. Maternity pads are longer, gently cushioned, more comfortable, and more absorbent than normal Maxi pads.

How are Sparkle maternity pads different from conventional maternity pads?

Most conventional maternity pads can contain a large amount of petrochemical-based plastic and synthetic super absorbent polymers that are derived from crude oil. They also typically contain artificial fragrances and dyes that may cause rashes or irritations.

Sparkle maternity pads are USDA Certified Biobased Products crafted with plant-based ingredients that are gentle to your skin and kind to the planet. They do not contain chlorine bleach, dyes or fragrances.

How are Sparkle maternity pads different from other “green” pads?

Many “green” maternity pads use cellulose based fibers such as cotton or viscose only in the top layer. They continue to use conventional petrochemical-based plastics (such as polypropylene, polyethylene) as well as synthetic superabsorbents (such as sodium polyacrylate, which is a crude oil derivative) throughout all the other layers.

We have replaced conventional plastics from the top sheet, absorbent core, back film and packaging with sustainable ingredients such as cellulose fibers as well as plant-based bioplastic. Sparkle maternity pads do not use any synthetic super absorbent polymers. The absorbent core of our maternity pad is made using a porous fiber network of natural and renewable cellulose fibers which lock away the menstrual fluid effectively.

Why choose pads made with plant-based ingredients?

Using renewable, plant-based maternity pads can help us reduce non-renewable, fossil-fuel use. Compared to conventional maternity pads that can contain a large amount of petrochemical-based plastics, Sparkle maternity pads and packaging are made using biobased materials.

By replacing conventional plastics from the top sheet, absorbent core, back film and packaging with sustainable ingredients such as cellulose fibers and plant-based bioplastics, we can say goodbye to plastics that could pollute our planet for 500-600 years after disposal.
